Printer-Friendly Version

Kids with CF can also have problems with digesting food and removing waste from their bodies, the main job of the gastrointestinal, or GI, tract. There are many organs involved in the GI tract, including the mouth, which secretes digestive enzymes; the esophagus, which moves food to the stomach; the pancreas, which also makes enzymes for digestion; the small intestines, which absorb nutrients from food and water; and the large intestines, which reabsorb water and form feces, or waste materials.
