Dr. Garry R. Cutting is Director of the DNA Diagnostic Laboratory and Director of the Medical Genetics Residency Post-doctoral Training Program at Johns Hopkins. Board certified in Clinical Genetics and Biochemical and Molecular Genetics, Dr. Cutting is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation as well as the Society for Pediatric Research. He is also a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Practice Working Group of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, and co-chairman of Genetic Testing for the Cystic Fibrosis Committee of the American College of Medical Genetics. He is on the editorial board of Genetic Testing and Communicating Editor for Human Mutation.
Research Interests • Molecular genetics of cystic fibrosis • The role of CFTR genotypes in phenotypes that overlap with CF • Identifying genetic variants that contribute to chronic lung disease • Determining the biological role of the CFTR protein • Structure/function analysis of chloride channels expressed in epithelial tissues and retinal neurons • Genetic and environmental factors underlying variation of the CF phenotype
