 | Sandra E. Guggino, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology Department of Medicine Dr. Sandra Guggino, an Associate Professor of Medicine, attended the University of Toronto and received her Ph.D. in Physiology and Pharmacology from Duke University. She completed her post-doctoral fellowships in renal disease at Yale University and biological chemistry at the National Institutes of Health. She joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1988 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Neuroscience. She was appointed an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology in 1995, and in the Department of Physiology in 2003. She has received the Duke University Graduate Award and the Merck Career Development Award.

Research Interests • The physiology and pathophysiology of ion channels in non-excitable cells. • Abnormalities of fluid balance involved in cystic fibrosis. • Inhibited chloride secretion and enhanced sodium absorption in cystic fibrosis. • Structural defects in CFTR.
