Kristin A. Riekert, PhD

Professor of Medicine

Dr. Kristin Riekert attended Duke University and received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University where she specialized in pediatric psychology. She completed a fellowship in health psychology in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Division at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Riekert is Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on several NIH and foundation sponsored intervention trials focused on improving self-management and health outcomes in chronic illnesses including cystic fibrosis, asthma, chronic kidney disease, and sickle cell disease. Dr. Riekert is the current chair of the Behavioral Science and Health Services Research Assembly of the American Thoracic Society.

  • Objective measurement of adherence
  • Psychosocial predictors of adherence in adolescents and young adults with chronic illnesses
  • Evaluating the efficacy of new interventions to support self-management
  • Identifying best practices for disseminating and implementing self-management interventions into regular clinical care or direct to patients
  • Transitioning responsibility for health behaviors and care from parent to patient
